Consumers are being encouraged to manage their finances carefully over the Christmas period.
With families set to spend more than ?500 on presents, people have to make sure they are not putting themselves in a financially perilous position by overstretching themselves.
If individuals are not careful, they may need to seek out debt help further down the line to deal with their situation.
Making a budget and sticking to it is vital, as UK adults need to be able to live within their means if they are going to look after their finances in the long-term.
Financial expert Kristjan Novitski said: "At the end of the year spending is bound to raise a lot and people are in need [of] extra cash."
She added no one should be looking to borrow "huge amounts of money", as this could see them caught up in a debt cycle that they may struggle to get out of.
