Does anyone have this issue with Sony Blu-ray Players and British films/tv on DVD

I've noticed when ever I play Region 1 DVDs of BBC TV shows on my Sony Region A blu-ray playerthere is often an intermitent choppiness to the picture. However If I play the same disc in my Multi region the picture is perfect.

I suspect that it might have something to do with the fact that the tv shows were originally encoded in PAL format, but I'm not exactly sure how this works.

Anyone know what is wrong and how to fix this?
