What are the 10 worst cities for cell reception? - Know Your Cell

One of the most frustrating things is having your call drop or not being able to use your data because your carrier sucks but what cities have the worst reception? Well, Time Magazine and OpenSignalMaps?teamed up to put together a definitive list and I think you may be surprised by some of the choices.?

It can actually be pretty tough to provide near-100 percent coverage and the quality of reception is impacted by a variety of things. This includes the quality of investment by the carrier, a city's topography, the amount of data users in a location, the amount of spectrum available and many more factors.

For example, we often see new networks launch in Texas?because it's relatively flat and it's much easier for carriers to put up new towers. By contrast, it can take up to three years to build a new cell tower in San Francisco due to local regulations. Surprisingly, San Francisco didn't make the list of cities with bad reception.?

You'll find the Time list of worst cities below along with what it found to be the best and worst carriers. It may be faint praise but Sprint appears to be the best carrier in these cities with the worst reception. T-Mobile pops up most often as the worst carrier.?

10. Detroit, Mich,; Best carrier: Sprint, Worst: AT&T

9.? Lexington, KY; Sprint, T-Mobile

8. Jacksonville, Fla.; Sprint, T-Mobile

7. Milwaukee, Wisc.; Sprint, T-Mobile

6. Tucson, Ariz.; Sprint, T-Mobile

5. Toledo, Ohio; Sprint, T-Mobile

4. Lincoln, Neb.; Verizon, T-Mobile

3. Oklahoma City, Okla.; Sprint, AT&T

2. Colorado Springs, Colo.; Sprint, AT&T

1. Bakersfield, Calif.; Sprint, AT&T

?

What do you think of the list? How is the reception in your city?
